Edit warring

[edit]

You made a series of bold edits to S. Muralidhar, but your edits were reverted. Rather than simply restore your edits, which is considered edit warring and can get you blocked, you should instead try to explain on Talk:S. Muralidhar why you think your edits are preferable. I will note that the things I found problematic were:

  1. a change of the infobox "Appointed by" entry from Ram Nath Kovind (the name of the President of India who appointed Muralidhar to his present post) to a generic link to the list of Presidents of India, which is less than useful;
  2. a change in tone of the article from neutral to one that appears more to be making a case for Muralidhar;
  3. inclusion of unsourced personal information about Muralidhar.

You should address these issues in your discussion of your edits. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:18, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @WikiDan61: Thanks for the comments. I was re-arranging the personal infomration (with separte headings) which was already present in the previous version. There were no initial sources given.

"Appointed by" is usually done by the President of India. Linking to individual person name would confuse as sometimes the Presidents are also politicians. This can also confuse someone who does not have any idea of Indian Constitution. If information need be given regarding the Individual President name, the edit can include "President Ramnath Kovind" linking to two separate pages?

Was doing a complete edit of the page and lost all the changes during user Ankit8968Soni

However restoration of Edit lead to loss of other edits. Hence had to restore the previous version to save the draft. Hence tried doing piecemeal changes and updates.

In every case (review a few pages to confirm), the "Appointed by" field for any appointed post would include the name of the person who appoints, not the office. The fact that the President of India is responsible for appointing High Court Judges is a fact that is available from the article on High courts of India, and is generically true, but the fact that Muralidhar was appointed specifically by President Kovind is the fact of interest in this case. The link to Kovind's article is sufficient to indicate that he is the President of India. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:53, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

As you continue to edit S. Muralidhar and other articles, please refer to Help:Citing sources to learn how to properly cite sources such as court cases. Specifically, instead of:

In ''[https://indiankanoon.org/doc/1697413/ Rajendra Grover v. Air India Ltd. (2007)]''...

which renders as

In Rajendra Grover v. Air India Ltd. (2007)...

it is better to use the syntax:

In ''Rajendra Grover v. Air India Ltd.'' (2007)<ref>{{cite court|url=https://indiankanoon.org/doc/1697413/|litigants=Rajendra Grover v. Air India Ltd.|reporter=Indian Kanoon|date=8 October 2007}}</ref>...

which renders as:

In Rajendra Grover v. Air India Ltd. (2007)[1]...

References

  1. ^ Rajendra Grover v. Air India Ltd., Indian Kanoon (8 October 2007).

There are many different citation templates depending on the nature of the source you are citing: {{cite court}} for court cases; {{cite book}} for published books; {{cite news}} for newspaper articles; {{cite journal}} for scholarly journal articles; {{cite web}} for website articles, to name just a few. Wikipedia discourages the use of external links embedded within articles and prefers the use of these standard citation formats. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:58, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello IndianLawReporter! Your additions to S. Muralidhar have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 15:13, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Diannaa, Thanks for pointing out the issues with the edit. However, I am presently unable to see my edits as they have been marked as RD1 violation. Would it be possible to get to view the version of the entire edit made by me so that I can work on them to remove any violations and bring them within policies? I did not make any local back-ups and do not want to waste the effort spent so far. Please advise/help. IndianLawReporter (talk) 08:43, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
